Arbor le Tigre

Pacific Ocean, HI, USA
February 2019

The tiger looked up
at the tree giving him shade
and said, “We are one.”

A symbiotic relationship is one wherein two individuals benefit from a close connection. In the case of the orange lichen on this tree, the lichen receives nutrients from the tree while the tree receives protection from excess moisture and rot from the lichen. A parasitic relationship is one wherein one individual benefits at the other’s expense. Can you think of anyone to whom that label may apply?
