A monument to nature’s pride
Reaches for the sun and sky.
In solitude he’s spent his life
Seeking friendship’s famed respite.
Although Norfolk Pines litter the neighborhoods of Kailua-Kona, it’s rare to find them in clusters. Much more frequently, solitary trees tower above native vegetation and household alike. Whenever we see them, we can’t help but feel a sense of kinship in their loneliness in that we are both always looking for companionship – they with the heavenly host, us with others of our kind – and yet, despite our ever-present efforts, we stand alone.
