Assassins dash through clashing light
and dark, the fashion of the night,
Stashed away, Mark locked in sight,
Leaving naught save ash and fright.
If you’re one of those people who thinks that insects are little more than pests or, on the rare occasion, garden helpers, then you have clearly never spent any amount of time staring at praying mantises: they are one of the few insect species that will stare right back into your eyes, and as they do, it’s abundantly obvious, that they are highly intelligent. No wonder they are such efficient and successful hunters!
