Dark horizons loom ahead
where sailor’s feet refuse to tread,
Safe in the calm we mourn our dead
Before the storm approaches.
This eerie scene, shot off the Kona coast of the Big Island, HI, reminds us, that before every storm is an eerie calm that remains equally beautiful as it is inevitable. While oceans around the world continue to be over-fished, polluted, and otherwise exploited for the sake of humankind, we cannot help but wonder how much longer this period of “calm” will continue before we must suffer the consequences of our actions.
